Hungarian Pentathlete Kasza Performance Superb

The pentathlon simply means the five competitions. It was an athletic event in the Olympic Games and other Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece. These five events were stadion (a short foot race), wrestling, which were also held as separate events, and the long jump, javelin throw, and discus throw.

To many, pentathletes are considered to be among the most skilled athletes, and their training was often part of military service—each of the five events was thought to be useful in battle. Shooting range was the first discipline to commence the Men’s quest for World Cup Champion 2008. The title and gold medal went to Robert Kasza of Hungary (5628 points).

Taking home the silver medal was Ondrej Polivka from Czech Republic (5612) and in third place, a surprise medallist following an impressive run, was American Eli Bremmer (5604). Onto the fencing, the standout performance by Robert Kasza (HUN) with 21V/10D, giving each 972 points.

Making a splash at the pool, Adam Marosi (HUN) swam the fastest 200m in 1:58,16 followed closely by team mate Robert Kasza in 1:58,33. This impressive swim by Kasza propelled him into first position overall (3424) whilst Bremmer crept up the leader table into second position with the seventh fastest swim giving him 3416 points, equal also with Kacer.

Kasza was one of four athletes to obtain a perfect score (1200) at the riding arena today, allowing him to maintain his overall lead of 4624 points which gave him a 24 second lead at the beginning of the run. Kasza took control of the race and crossed the line a successful gold medallist. Fastest man on the course was current World Champion, Ilia Frolov (RUS) in a time of 09:28,51.

Hi Zsolt! As you say, this is a VERY difficult discipline. I know. I also did this whilst at university. In fact it’s so difficult that I changed to badminton instead lol!!
Have a good day..

Michael, Is it the same in France - stadion, wrestling, the long jump, javelin throw, and discus throw?

Interesting question. Here’s the long answer. In French schools, ”competition” is a little frowned upon by what is mostly a bourgois socialist profession, so they organise sport in a less competitive way.
I’m English, and we like competitive sport, so we like winning (and have to lose sometimes lol!!)
This is why French tennis players, for example, are considered (even in France) to lack ”the killer instinct”. It’s the same for their football teams on a European level.
It also explains why the British finished fourth in the olympics and the French 10th, even though we have the same population, general culture, size of economy etc....
